Building a Great Unit of History
June 10 @ 13:00 – 15:30
Would you like support on effective ways to plan great units of history? Would you like worked examples to share with your school?
About this event
This is the most comprehensive session I have ever run! It combines a live session, detailed resource booklet and supporting videos to exemplify.
1) What is history?
Exploring the nature of the past and certain challenges to consider when attempting to teach it.
2) Thinking carefully about the NC14
Breaking down the curriculum to consider the role each section plays in influencing what, why and how we plan. Also ensuring some common pitfalls are avoided.
3) Context – world building, vocabulary and chronology
4) The importance of enquiry questions
5) Sources of evidence – definitions and combining them to develop a deeper understanding
5) Answering the EQ and end products
6) Q and A
A detailed booklet which discusses each step of the planning process included at least one worked example for each key stage. This ties in with my other free resources including the chronology videos which can be accessed on Youtube.
A number of videos which model how aspects of the process can be taught.
